This is a rugged and well-sized enclosure designed for the Hiby R4 Pro DAP. All necessary files are included in the package for your convenience.

Overview of the Design Process:

Insert Modeling:

  • The inserts for the battery and the Hiby R4 itself were modeled using Plasticity.
  • I’ve left all parts uncut and included the necessary tools, allowing you complete flexibility to modify the design as needed.
  • The Plasticity file is included in the .zip download.

Enclosure Design:

  • The rugged box was created in OpenSCAD, inspired by @iceman’s rugged box project. This isn’t a remix but rather a standalone design leveraging his work. You can find the original project here:
Super Customizable Rugged Box in OpenSCAD.
  • My OpenSCAD settings are also included in the .zip file for reference.

Materials and Printing Details:

  • Materials:
    • TPU/Flex: All inserts (except the foot pegs) should be printed using TPU. I used TPU 85A, but any TPU material will work.
    • PETG: The rest of the parts are designed to be printed with PETG.
  • Hiby Insert:
    • For the Hiby insert, I performed a color change (as shown in the image) to highlight the text. I used red on black for the color combination.
  • Printing Recommendations:
    • All parts print without issues. I typically use 3-4 perimeters, 15% infill, and default settings for everything else.
  • Files Included:
    • Individual STL files for each part.
    • A combined 3MF file containing all parts, so you can choose whichever suits your needs.

Battery Insert and Assembly:

  • Battery Insert:
    • The battery insert is optional. If you decide to include it, ensure the battery you select is slim enough to fit the case.
    • Use Plasticity to adjust the battery insert to your desired size.
    • I designed a channel around the battery for accessories like a USB-C cable, a 3.5mm adapter, and other minor items.
  • Assembly:
    • To assemble the rugged case, you’ll need 4 M3 x 25mm hex screws. You can find them here: M3 Hex Screws on Amazon.

Additional Information:

This rugged case was designed to be both functional and versatile, with flexibility for customization and ease of assembly. Enjoy the project and feel free to modify it to suit your preferences!

Recent Updates:

I recently added a “Mini” design as well, with the necessary inserts and enclosure.  All files are attached as usual.  Full plasticity and OpenSCAD files in the zip files attached in the “Other Files” section.

The big difference between the two, is the Mini is optimized for space saving with some protection with the FLEX/TPU inserts for a good protective fit.  No battery, and barely enough space for the headphones to be included.

The larger case has lots of space for the slim battery, headphones, charging cable, etc..

I use the mini for “around the town” use, and the larger when travelling so I have the additional battery with me.
