My employer has some network closets with no lighting or convenient outlets but oddly enough there is plenty of switch ports. this device is tiny compared to a floor based flood light, doesn't require extension cords or batteries. also has space for magnets for sticking it to door frames, some racks, wall cabinets, etc. Also put a mounting hole for a rack screw.
based on a edimax GP-101ST POE splitter, Diode Dynamics Rock light, a switch found on digikey (CH757-ND), and some 1/2x1/2x1/4 inch neodymium magnets (2-4). this combination can supply up to 25w of power for lighting although the rock light only pulls around 10w. it has a low and a high mode that provides a stated ~1000 lumens. It does get HOT in the high brightness mode.
the out side edge has zip tie slots for wire management.
