I had difficulty assembling the original jig with the suggested pogo pins, as the holes were too tight when printed with PETG. I added about .45 mm to the diameter of the holes in the jig, and sunk the screw holes in so that the original screws are usable to hold things in place.

Also uploaded are STEP files reverse engineered from the original STL, for fine-tuning hole sizes.

The flash procedure I ended up using, pulling together from

https://digiblur.com/2024/03/14/emporia-vue-gen3-esp32-esphome-home-assistant/

and https://github.com/emporia-vue-local/esphome/discussions/264 . These instructions worked for me: https://github.com/emporia-vue-local/esphome/discussions/264#discussioncomment-11609670 and summarized below:

  • Connect RX of USB-TTL serial adapter to RX pin labeled on jig/board (note that my photo is incorrect)
  • Connect TX of USB-TTL serial adapter to TX pin labeled on jig/board
  • Connect GND to GND
  • Connect IO0 to GND (or some other grounded component; I used the antenna connector shell
  • Connect 3.3V
  • Dump w/ ESPTool (See “doing a backup”) at https://github.com/emporia-vue-local/esphome/blob/dev/README.md
  • Flash w/ ESPHome, perhaps starting w/ https://github.com/emporia-vue-local/esphome/discussions/264#discussioncomment-11621009 , point to usb adapter
  • Remove 3.3V
  • Remove IO0,
  • Boot up by re-attaching 3.3V and ensure that it works properly
