My daughter is a little older and helps the 1.5 yr/o break out of the pen, eventually breaking the plastic union parts. These last through a lot of breakouts but eventually split.  I used eSun PLA+ I tried PETG, but it snaps with sharper edges than the PLA seems to and didn't last much longer. If you print with the stem vertical the print on the horizontal section is laid out in the direction of the strain on the part and it seems to last a little longer. See the print file.  I use tree supports and about 50% infill cubic. The beefy kids-T has thicker sidewalls after, update after my kids learned to break the original sidewall thickness ones more easily.
