This project is a spool core that enables the user to rewind the excess filament that is hanging out of a cereal dry box once they are done using that filament and unload it from their printer. It also doubles as a desiccant holder spool core. It consists of a universal spool core that fits most spools diameter and width, and a pass through port with a gasket-ed plug which allows you to insert a ¼" nut driver through the wall of the cereal box to turn the spool and rewind the excess filament back into the cereal box.
Jan 20th, 2025 note: I've found there are quite a few spools with really large center holes like GEEETECH and Giantarm which are in the 72-74mm range. I've made an adapter for these and added them to the STEP files; I also added a 3mf with both sizes that was sliced in Bambu Studio. There are probably other generic spool core adapters available for this purpose too.
Update January 28th, 2025: I've added a file for a quarter inch drive tool.
Update February 1st, 2025: Apparently I forgot to upload the STEP file for the end cap of the universal filament spool core/desiccant holder. I have added that today.
I am using the upside down cereal dry box filament holder by GunplaMark although this should work with any sort of storage system similar to a cereal dry storage box.
To install the pass-through, I first install the spool core, then put the lid back on the dry box and eye-ball the center of the spool-core; and mark it with a pen. Then I use a small bit to drill a pilot hole, followed by a 1" hole saw. The storage containers I am using are brittle, so I dig deep and apply some patience :) , drill slowly with moderate to light pressure.
I don't know if this qualifies as a “remix” as it serves a unique purpose that the primary model which inspired this did not perform and… I'm not trying to step on any toes. This project was drawn from scratch using Fusion, I had initially tried to achieve rewinding using the design by Willi 3D and their SpoolCore, although I could not get that to meet my needs. Credit to Willi 3D for a nice design which inspired the universal fit desiccant spool core component of this solution for rewinding.
I have included STEP files for each of the parts, and a 3mf project file from Bambu studio that was set up for my P1s with .4mm nozzle using PETG on plate 1 and TPU on plate 2.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
