This model is designed to create a physical reference for clay shrinkage, allowing you to intuitively estimate the final dimensions of your ceramic pieces during the making process.

This "shrinkage ruler," created with this stamp, will reduce in size proportionally to your work, thereby providing a visual estimation of the final size after firing.

How it works:

  1. First, print this 3D-model to make a stamp.
  2. Impress the stamp onto a clay strip to create your “shrinkage ruler”.
  3. Fire the clay strip.
  4. Now, use the fired shrunk ruler to compare a measurement made with a standard ruler.
  5. This difference allows you to easily visualize how much your piece will reduce after firing.

For example, if you measure a pot while throwing with a standard ruler and it’s 10cm, you can then look at the fired "shrinkage ruler" to get an intuitive idea of how much smaller that 10cm will be after firing.

This method will significantly help you make more informed decisions during the creation process, avoiding unexpected size changes and making the planning of lids and sets easier.

Key Features:

  • Offers a visual, direct reference for shrinkage.
  • Allows estimating final dimensions while shaping pieces.
  • The ruler reflects the exact shrinkage of your clay and firing process.
  • You can create multiple rulers for different clays and firings.
  • Additional Tip: Remember that the same clay can shrink differently at different temperatures. Create a different ruler for every type of firing you need.

Printing Considerations:

  • The model is designed to fit on a standard 3D printer bed (e.g., Prusa).
  • The numbers and marks are raised, so they will create a recessed impression on the clay.
