Why uniSpool?

I never cared much about filament spools for 12 years of 3D printing. But then I opened the box of Pandora when buying Bambulab 3D printers with their AMS multi-material systems in 2022… From then, I was constantly running into issues when I was able to acquire 2.5 kg spools on a cheap, or decided to use just cross brand everything I was interested in.

Finally, I decided to decouple what spools I use from what I buy and created the uniSpool.

Why the uniSpool is good (for me)

There are a couple of reasons, and some of them are even not design related.

  1. They are always the same, if I want them so
Even the Bambu Lab Spool will change in the future most likely, and it is out of my control. The uniSpool only changes when I decide. Even the users can just stick with the version they already printed and like.
  2. It is 80%+ a Bambu Lab Spool and is compatible with all my printers, AMS, and AMS Lite.
These stuff is all just tooling for me, and I want it to work. The Bambu Spool is good and there are plenty of mods available, for example the silica-containers.
  3. It has a durable, easy to print design
The design is easy and has all the features I need. I can add RFID and printed charms to the pentagons. So I always have a printed representation of the filament attached to the spool. The Bambu Spool mods work, and I have reliable grip points for the uniSpooler. That's all I need.
