A slip case for Heltec Visionmaster E290:

Easy to print, comes with several variations:

  • Slim and fat designs.
    • The slim design has 6mm clearance between the top of the LoRa transceiver module and the case back
    • The fat design has 23mm clearance
  • With, and without, access to the IO pins and Serial interface socket
  • Two different endcap designs
    • Flush; brings the SMA antenna connector out inline with the case
    • Full; has more space and 4 sub-versions: blank (to drill yourself), SMA on top, SMA on bottom, and one with 2x SMA ports (top and bottom. just in case..)

There is room for a small battery even in the slim case; I have a 200mAh battery in my home node as a short-term backup although it is normally permanently powered.

Select the parts you need, and print without supports.

  • Clean up the prints afterwards to make sure the screen aperture is flush with the rest of the body and the board can slide in easily. I used a small (nail) file for this.
  • Make sure the buttons move freely and go down all the way into their holes. One of them is slightly shorter for the reset button.
  • Take care when sliding the board in over the buttons, the clearance is tight and they can snag unless you have everything properly seated.

Use a pair of 2mm x 5mm screws to hold the cap; I salvaged mine off some old equipment I was recycling.

Pad the board at the cap end if it is loose after fitting.

The board model used in designing this is here:

Note: There was a early E290 board revision with sideways facing buttons.. the main case here is for the current shipping model that has rearwards facing buttons (if in doubt, zoom in on the pictures of my board..)

But if you do have the early board with side-facing buttons: there is a case version which has a finger-sized cutout to allow the buttons to be pressed directly.
