This is a template for making mortises and tenons on a workpiece that fit a Nova chuck with 130mm jaws.
The original was designed for laser cutting out of acrylic, and had lettering on the template, as well as a hole to hang it on the lathe with a magnet. I received a request to convert the template for 3D printing so this model does not have the lettering or hole as in the photo.
Use is simple enough:
If a tenon fits inside the larger semicircle and is no smaller than the smaller semicircle, it will fit the jaws. If a mortise is larger than the smallest set of pointers but no larger than the wider set of pointers, it will fit the jaws.
Note that the larger measurements are nowhere near the largest that the jaws can grasp. However, the wider the jaws are set, the more likely the jaw corners will dig into the workpiece, leaving marks or even damaging it. Worse, when the workpiece is held only by the corners of the jaws, it is not as secure, thus more likely to fly off. So the large size on this template is within a fairly narrow range, and this is by design.
