Acoustic Wall Panel Shelf

Sturdy shelves for acoustic panels - non destructive - with cheap IKEA glass shelf. 

I needed some shelves for my acoustic wall panels that would not destroy the wood panels in any way. These are screwless mounted to the wall panels. 

The mounts use a M3 nut and the mount hooks use countersunk M3 bolts to attach to the mounts.

If the panels are attached directly to a wall then no back support is needed. In my case the acoustic panels are attached to a wooden skeleton, and therefore needed support from the back. If the mounts are placed directly in front of a wooden beam then no support is needed. If it is not then the polyester back side of the panels can flex a bit which can cause the shelf to tip a bit forward. By using the back support plate a solid area is created behind the polyester which eliminates the possibility for it flexing and prevents the shelf tipping forward.

If you are going to use the back support plate, then predrill the holes for the screws that go into the wood profile from the back with a 3mm drill. Use countersunk 4x20mm wood screws. Be careful not to screw them to long in - they just need to be flush with the support plate. Measure to make sure that the screws will not go all the way through the wood.

The two center holes in the support plate can be used to align it to the shelves. Mock the placement of the shelves on the panel front and then use wooden toothpicks or similar inserted where the m3 countersunk bolts would go. Then it is easy to see where the support plate has to be placed on the back side of the panel.

My panels (Fibrotech) have a 14mm gap between the wood profiles which are 10mm deep.

I use these round silicone feet to prevent the glass from sliding on the holder (8x2mm)
