This Filament Motion Sensor uses the standard extruder parts of the Creality Ender3/5 and a KY-040 Encoder
BOM:
- Creality Bowden style extruder
- KY-040 Encoder
- Idler Bearing Ø16mm ØOD 8mm ID 5mm T Ø18mm Ring found on Creality Belt tensioners(the ones with an M8 Screw through them)
- Small self tapping screws to screw the encoder into the part
- Optional 4x M3 Heat Set inserts
- Optional 1xM6 Heat Set inserts
- Optional: 2x 4mm PTFE Tube Coupler with M6 Threads
Building instructions:
- Print the parts, select if you want the Sensor mounted in line to an existing bowden tube(Model with M3 Heat Set Inserts(all optional Parts required)) or if you want to mount it to the Frame(Model M3 Screw on Frame).
- For the inline model: insert all the heat set inserts into the four holes
- For the inline model: Drill out the existing heat set insert of the tensioning arm of the extruder and insert a M6 Heat Set insert.
- Drill out the Filament Pulling gear(Standard ID: Ø5mm) to the Diameter of the shaft of your Encoder(Usually Ø6mm)
- Insert the Spacer for Bearing into the Bearing
- Insert the Encoder from the back through the Bearing and screw it in place. I used a soldering iron to punch the holes into the plastic for the self tapping screws
- Screw on the extruder but not the tensioning arm
- Position the extruder gear and screw it ind
- Mount the filament tensioning arm (dont forget the spring).
- Mount the 2 PTFE couplers
- Wire everything up(+ to +, GND to GND, DT or CLK to Signal)
- Update the firmware, test and enjoy :D
