Multi-Color Playing Cards (for single filament printers)

If you have a single color filament printer like me, here are some playing cards you can print and still have 2 colors.

I saw some 3d printed playing cards recently but they were set up for printers that can print in more than one color filament. I don't have a printer that can do that at the moment, so I made my own version of some 3D printed playing cards that still use more than one color of filament in the final card.

Why have 3d printed playing cards? For one, they're waterproof and if one gets damaged you can just reprint the one that's wrong rather than getting a whole new set of cards. They're potentially more accessible for people with sight difficulties due to the raised surface of the "face" of the card's numbers and suits (they could be remixed to include the braille for the numbers and suits to make them even more accessible).

This works by printing the cards with a 0.1 or 0.08 layer height, pausing the print before layer 4 of the cards, switching out the filament color, then resuming printing of the card. In order to make sure that the card base adheres to the print bed, slow down the first layer of the print, I tend to go with 200 mm/s. I printed these all with a 0.4 mm nozzle too! The final print time for all the cards on my printer was 9 to 10 hours with 3 cards per buildplate.

I recommend you use a dark color filament for the base of the card and a lighter color for the suit, there can be an opacity issue if you say use white filament for the card base, light can shine through the cards so the number/suit can be seen.

There is no "card back" in the file because I couldn't get it to print so I recommend you change the "Bottom Surface Pattern" under Top/Bottom Shell settings if you have those, Bambu printers have a list of them and I specifically used the Octagram Spiral which gave it a bit of a unique look to the back rather than just a flat texture.

Because the cards are 0.5mm thick, you can't put them in a standard playing card box. My final width of all the cards was 38.5mm, which was due to all the surface imperfections.

Card images derived from this set. It didn't have a joker card so I made my own based on the rest of the cards.

tldr;
1- print these at 0.1 or 0.08 layer height, which can be done with a 0.4mm nozzle
2 - pause the print before layer 4, change the filament to a different color
3 - resume the print
4- enjoy your 3d printed cards!
