Enclosure for K1SWL's Old Friend Transceiver

The "Old Friend" is a single board CW transceiver kit for amateur radio operators. Designed by Dave Benson (K1SWL) and sold by Midnight Design Solutions, it is a fun and rewarding kit to build. However, an enclosure is highly desirable.

Although there is a very nice enclosure for the transceiver as an option, it wasn't initially available. I was starting work on a 3D printed enclosure when Ken (WA4MNT) posted details of a case he constructed out of printed circuit boards and painted, finishing it off with dry transfers. I loved the look of the final product and thought I'd model my 3D printed case after his. He included the drawings for the case at the midnightdesignsolutions.com website, which made it much easier to create my 3D printed version.

Besides the 3D printed parts (top, bottom, and knob), four 15mm M3 threaded standoffs and eight 10mm M3 flathead screws will be needed. The flathead screws are flush with the case, but other screw heads will also work if you don't mind the screw heads protruding. The case can be finished off with four non-slip adhesive feet.

Nothing special about the printing except for the filament change on the last two layers if you want the text to be printed in a different color. PLA is fine and no supports are needed.

Besides the STL files, the OpenSCAD source file and the SVG icons are included if you wish to customize the enclosure. The text and/or icons can be changed or even omitted if you want to do your own labeling. The text and icons are printed "old school" as the last two layers of the top case, requiring a filament change.
