I recently obtained a few 10GbE cards with low profile brackets. Since I needed full height brackets in my case, I tried to find some. I ordered some that seemed like a likely fit, but they didn't work. I was not able to find brackets for this exact card, nor was I able to find any kind of low profile to full height adapter. So I changed my plan.

I didn't want to design and print a full height bracket that would only be useful for this very specific card, so I decided to chop off the end of the low profile bracket, grabbed a full height PCI Express slot cover to remix, and then used Tinkercad to create an adapter. This adapter should be fairly generic, and usable for almost any single slot card! Multiple slot cards will likely need a remix.

To Use:

  1. Print this adapter.
  2. Remove the low profile bracket from the expansion card.
  3. Cut off the bent portion of the low profile bracket as close to the bend as possible. Be careful, this cut edge might be sharp!
  4. Push the adapter onto the cut edge of the low profile bracket.
  5. Install in your computer.

Hopefully someone else can find a use for this.

I printed in PLA, but PETG should work as well. Filler settings don't matter, as it's too thin to even have filler. The bits I added were 0.8mm, designed for a 0.4mm nozzle. So if your nozzle size is larger, this might not print well for you. The STL is already oriented as I printed it. You'll likely have to enable supports for the raised bit.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

I removed a portion of the bracket blank, and added a few bits of material to create a cradle to ‘hold’ the existing low profile bracket once the part that screws into the case was cut off.
