Remix of an awesome little gadget by roosloot that I needed to keep my loaches from uprooting my aquarium plants. This is their favorite past time so I tried to make it as loach-proof as possible.
The pins are not extremely secure, to be honest, but they do help for alignment. When inserting toothpics through the two halves, if you offset by one row of holes on the opposite side it helps to further strengthen the join. Otherwise, one might consider using a zip-tie if there's any concern.
Once the plant is rooted simply remove the toothpicks and the two halves will come apart rather than trying to slide the holder up & over all the leaves.
**Edit Oct 6, 2022: Added a second STL file without blades at the bottom. V1.3 has blades, V1.4 does not. While I think the blades might be helpful, they only work when the plants are not much taller than the holder itself. When planting taller plants, the holder is difficult to spin and scoop up substrate. Hence, the additional version without them and to improve printing orientation and speed.
Big thanks to roosloot! Aquarium plant holder by Roosloot - Thingiverse

Doesn't Matter
Supports:
Yes
Notes:
I placed the top of the holder on the slicer bed surface (top is opposite of the substrate scooping fin-things on the bottom) with supports.
PET/PETT/PETG are the preferred filaments for use under water, especially if FDA approved. Normal PLA will degrade.
Edit: Oct 6, 2022. The above placement applies to V1.3 (with the fins), I added a second file without them today The bottom can be placed on the bed for V1.4.
