Just a few options for replacement wheelchair joystick knobs. I got tired of the standard black rubber ones becoming loose and popping off. I’ve tested the fit of these with the R-Net joysticks on Permobil wheelchairs (R-Net Color, PJSM, and CJSM2). These will likely fit other joysticks as well. There are three different versions.

  1. The first is a simple one-piece version that can be printed out of TPU and pushes onto the metal rod of the joystick for a friction fit much like the original.
  2. The second version uses four M3 x 16 screws and four M3 nuts to secure the knob to the metal joystick rod. This version works best when printed in a non-flexible material.
  3. The third version uses a TPU knob that is paired with non-flexible inner piece and also uses four M3 x 16 screws and four M3 nuts.

Printing:

I used Hatchbox 95A TPU for the flexable parts. 3 walls with 15% cubic infill worked well. The only place I used supports was beneath the TPU knob from version 3.

Assembly:

Version one requires no assembly, the knob simply pushes onto the metal joystick rod. For the second version, insert the four M3 nuts into the slots in the bottom of the joystick knob, then insert the screws from the outside and slide the knob onto the metal joystick rod. Snug the four screws. Version three is similar to version two except that the M3 nuts go into the slots in the inner piece and then that piece goes into the TPU part before the screws are inserted. I also used flat washers on the screws when assembling this version.

I’ve uploaded STEP files for all three versions in case you’d like to make any changes.

Go boldly, my friends! 🖖
