First of all, thanks to MacGyverr for the original model I use as a starting point. I liked the style they used for the walls of the vent more than any other I have come across.
Here's a lit version of the Die Hard vent ornament. It uses the guts of a tea light for a flickering lit effect (No re-wiring, just pop the top off the tea light). The tea light I used can be found here (NOTE - My wife purchased these a few years ago, so I cannot verify the current ones are still dimensionally identical to the older ones I have).
Printed on my QIDI Plus 4. I used 3 walls with 15% infill (triangles). 0.4 nozzle, 0.2 layer height. Used brand 3dHojor - Metal Silver - Silk PLA, 55C bed, 230C first layer, 225C after. Only support needed is for the mounting holes recessed in from the bottom (I used Tree automatic).
Included is a cut template file. The template is the same dimensions as the model at the height of the photo, trim the photo to the inner edge of the cut template. I backed my photo with foil tape so that light would not bleed through the paper. Had I put more thought into it, i would have modeled the photo background so that John would have illuminated better through the paper. Here is the photo I started with -
Once printed, cut the photo to size (back with foil tape first if desired). Cut the hand with lighter out. Glue hand/lighter to the elevated portion of the background. Glue the “ugly mug” portion of the photo to the background. I glued in the tea light, but if your print is snug enough it may be fine friction fit (one of the two I printed was very snug fitting on the two post). I used SuperGlue (CA glue) on everything. Before gluing in the tea light, i bent the LED down some toward the opening of the hand/lighter.
The author remixed this model.
I added a support free loop for hanging, modeled a drop in mount for a Homemory flickering tea light, and built up the base to space the picture up from the back.
