This is a reel accessory for the Tree Toppler air powered line weight thrower. I printed both pieces in PLA, but recommend ABS or tougher at 60% infill on my Bambulab A1. I used supports for base and reel, but you might not need them for the base. I printed the base in Inland Translucent purple sparkle and the reel in Reprapper Glow in the Dark White filament.

 You will need these parts:

  • 2x 608 bearings
  • 1 M8 x 80mm bolt
  • 2 M8 washers
  • 1 M8 Lock Nut
  • 2 clamps size to fit (if using Tree Toppler: 2 ½" clamps)
  • line for 12oz throw weight (I am using 60lb test line)
  • 12 oz. throw weight (if you don't already have one.)
  1. Clean any support material from base, clean out hole for M8 screw. You may need to sand/file/Dremel the hole so the M8 bolt firmly fits in with the hex of the bolt flush with the side of the base.
  2. Clean all supports from the reel (sand/file/Dremel through hole for M8 bolt. Bolt should feel loose/spin on reel freely)
  3. press fit 608 bearings, one on each side of reel. (May need hammer and wood block to tap them in each, if so, be aware of reel handle location so not to break it.)
  4. Insert M8 bolt in base, then on thread side of bolt: M8 washer/Reel/washer/lock nut (backwards, so it is tight, but loose enough for the reel to spin freely
  5. Attach reel assembly to pipe of launcher 7-8" from outlet on lowermost point (when facing pipe outlet) using
  6. Add any reel line guides you might have if wanted. (I have a broken fishing rod tip I use for mine.
  7. Run the line you are using and tie it off in the spool and load the amount of line you are using (approx. 200 ft max)
  8. Tie the end if the line to the 12oz. throw weight and stuff the the weight-line facing out-all the way to the bottom of the chamber (letting slack from reel).
  9. (The rest of directions for if you are using air powered Tree Toppler)
  10. Charge the chamber with up to 100psi.
  11. Aim and launch to desired branch to run Saw line or pull line to. (reel will spin fast when letting line out. Do Not try to stop it early for safety)
  12. Once the line is over the branch, Set launcher down and tie cutting or pulling rope where the throw weight is. (removing the throw weight) and reel the rope back over.
