Why?

I was interested in how myantennas com common mode current choke, model CMC-154-3K, is built internally. Unfortunately its side caps are glued, so I had to destroy these to open it.

What?

This project provides replacement caps and nut guides mounted under caps. Original CMC-154-3K has no such guides and instead glues nuts directly to the sides of main tube. Guides are easier to use.

In my case guides were printed from ASA and caps from TPU. Everything mounted with black silicone (instead of glue). 2xM3 nyloc nut were used for each cap. M3x10 screws (but first M3x50 screws as guides, for easier mounting; then these were removed and replaced by final 10mm screws).

Mount order of parts - m3 guide first (nuts down), then SO-239 and finally a cap. Align drainage hole on guide with hole on cap.

Step/fusion files are available if you want to make a changes.

About CMC-154-3K:

  • four ferrites (29mm long, OD 26mm, ID 13mm each)
  • 3 coax turns on 1 ferrite, then on 2 ferrites and then 1 ferrite in series
  • a coaxial cable with insulation that looks like a woven fabric (interlaced in a "herringbone" pattern) covered by transparent insulation. Coax diameter - 4.4mm.
  • one side cap has two small holes most likely for water drainage and condensation avoidance
