Here's the system I developed for creating tool mounts for standard 1" peg boards. Before creating this system I tried a number of different peg board mounts designed by others, but often had problems with the hooks breaking off. The issue was most often the print orientation required was not optimal for the strength of the hooks, which are much stronger when the plane of the hook is parallel to the print bed.
My solution was to create a system where the hooks are printed separately and attached by sliding into a keyed slot in the mounts. This way the hooks can always be printed parallel to the plane of the bed.
I've included the STLs of the mounts I've created for my tools. If these work for you great! However, I expect most people will want to create custom mounts for their own tools. I've included STEP and STL templates for mounts from 1 up to 10 hooks. I've also included the Fusion 360 F3D file.
If you do create any custom mounts please post them as a remix for me and other's to find. Thanks!
The keyed slots for the hooks are designed to be printed in top, bottom, front, and back oritentation. Only 45 deg overhangs and a short bridge is required. But printing mount on the left or right side will result in the key slots overhanging.
Hooks should be printed on their side with the keyway facing up as shown.
Hooks can be installed in a mount by tapping them in lightly with hammer or other tool. I've also found pressing the hooks in with a vice works as well.
Pegboards (in the US) have a standard 1" hole spacing, but the actual boards can be a range of thicknesses. So sizing hooks to fit the largest board, results in a loose fitting hook on the thinner boards.
Thus, another advantage to printing the hooks separate from the mounts is it is easy to customize the hook size per each printed mount.
STLS are included for the common peg board thicknesses: 1/16" (0.0625) , 1/8 (0.125), 3/16" (0.1875), and 1/4" (0.25).
For metal peg boards the mounts also include holes for small magnets to keep the mounts from lifting when removing tools. Mounts with 2 or more hooks use 8x3mm round magnets. Mounts with only 1 hook use two 4x2mm round magnets. I use CA glue to attach the magnets.
