Capture the attention of kids and visitors this season with a fun interactive holiday decoration! After arranging the sugar cookies onto the central rings to make a fun display, you can then turn the smaller tree to make the cookies “dance” around the larger tree :)
If people like this idea, I can look at designing some more sugar cookies to provide more variety!
Print Instructions:
- Base: PLA, 0.2mm layer, 10-15% Infill,
- Sugar Cookies: PLA, 0.2mm layer, 10-15% Infill, Color change at layer 21
- Central Tree: Translucent PETG, 0.3mm layer, **VASE MODE**, make sure to leave a 42mm hole on the base to fit over tea light (or alternatives).
- Pegs: PETG, 0.2mm layer, 100% infill
Build Tips:
- Start by placing the double spur gear (with a keyhole), followed by the smallest gear, onto the two posts built into the base. Make sure to wiggle the gears a bit to get the teeth to align properly as you add the smallest gear. The central stacked gears should be placed next.
- If you find the gears to be sticking, you can try to lightly sand the inside diameters or use a knife to remove potential elephant foot. I only had this issue with the smallest 15-tooth gear.
- Three screws can be used to secure the top cover to the base which will ensure all the gears stay together neatly.
Tree Lighting:
- I have used a small dollar store necklace that can be turned on and attached to the bottom of the star (which has a convenient hook for just this purpose!). They hang inside the large tree and provide a nice glow effect through the transparent PETG.
- The base also has the space to hold an electronic tea light.
- You could look at using some LED's connected to a small microcontroller through the central pass through. (Future Goal)
