Unleash the magic of the holiday season with this little ornament that makes it look like you're peering into a tiny winter wonderland!
I've been wanting to design something like this for a long while and finally decided to bring the concept to life. The basic concept was simple: make an ornament that you could look into. A world within, basically. Designing it was a fun challenge! I decided for starters I might go with a wintery forest scene (though eventually I'd like to make more designs in this same concept). Along the way I split off the presents and tree for the most color options. It all came together with fun additions like rocks to add to that woodsy feel.
This works wonderfully as an ornament (it's a little chonky size wise but not terribly heavy) or simply set it out as part of a display.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays, friends!
• Filaments used: Silk Shiny Cyan (Mika3D), Sedimentary Rock (Overture), Jungle (PrintBed), Black Cherry (PrintBed), Silk Silver and Shiny Blue (AMOLEN), Blueberry Pearl (PrintBed).
• Accents (ornaments and ribbons) painted with gold acrylic paint.
• Pieces were glued down with matte ModPodge.
• A layer change can be added to the base (layer 34 if using 0.2mm resolution) to give the rocks a different color from the base.
• The dome was printed with "Fuzzy Skin" applied in the experimental features portion of Cura. This creates a texture like that of packed snow.
• I used a raft for my dome because I don't trust my printer. If you and your printer have a better relationship (or if you have more confidence in your little beastie than I do in mine) you probably won't need to use one.
