Cerulean Omniscan 450 SS Scratch Protector

When the BlueRobotics BlueBoat is folded, the transducer face of the Cerulean Omniscan 450 SS (450SS) attached to the Portside hull of the BlueBoat is very close to floor surface… and the transducer face of the other 450SS attached to the Starboard hull of the BlueBoat is also very close to the surface of the Portside hull.

The scratch protector's function is to protect the transducer face of 450SS preventing scratches during transport and handling of the BlueBoat.

The scratch protector is mounted to the BlueBoat using 10x round adhesive fastener dots (15 mm double sided hook and loop fastener). For added protection we added a 5 mm thick soft foam sheet (cut to LxW : ~260 mm x ~30mm) along the cavity of the scratch protector that is facing the transducer face (see photos).

What we did for printing and assembly (instruction):

• 3D Printing: a pair (2 units of Scratch protector) using PETG at 50% infill… 
• Surface sanding… especially on surfaces facing the 450SS
• Attach 10x adhesive fastener dots (hook side) to the fastener cavities on Scratch protector… and give some time for the adhesive to cure…
• Attach 10x fastener dots (loop side) to each of the fastener dots that are already attached to the Scratch protector
• Mount the scratch protector to each 450SS (portside and starboard) … and give 1 day for the adhesive attached to the 450SS mount to cure…
• Cut 5 mm thick foam (~260 mm x ~30 mm) for each scratch protector and insert them in the cavity of the 3D printed scratch protector that is facing the transducer face.

Recently (November 2024) we took our BlueBoat for a travel by plane (2-3 hours flight) and used a pair of this Scratch Protector to protect the 450SS attached to the BlueBoat.
