SawLink Basic is the free entry-level version of the SawLink series, now more versatile than ever. This 3D-printable design securely mounts your handheld battery-powered chainsaw to a pole (recommended Ø25-32mm). It includes compatibility with both a battery extension cord Makita 18V LXT version (via an included bespoke cable clamp) and a simplified version of the lever arm from “SawLink”, enabling wire-based trigger operation. Either pull directly by hand or use a Wire reel.

This version is perfect for users seeking a DIY solution to extend their chainsaw’s reach. For a more advanced options, check out SawLink Universal Toughmount  or  SawLink Universal QuickMount.

A. Printer Settings:

  • Filament Type: PETG, ASA or other strong material for outdoor use

  • Wall Thickness: >3 mm for durability

  • Infill: >30% for added strength and stability

  • Supports: Not required, but may improve aesthetics on some overhangs

  • Nozzle Size: >0.4 mm (0.6mm recommended)

B. Trigger-by-wire assembly Instructions:

  1. Chainsaw Holder Setup

    1. Assembly the Chainsaw holder by fixing the lever arm with the M8 screw, self-locking nut and washer. Tighten until the lever arm can still rotate freely but without too much play.

    2. Assembly the wire clamping mechanism using the M4 knob, self locking nut and washer.

    3. Take the steel wire and fix it with the wire clamping mechanism

    4.  Could be useful to have some lugs through out the pole to avoid losing the wire or letting go accidentally. I would use 2 plastic strips or these Snap-On cable clips for tubes at least half a metre from the top of the pole and half a metre from the bottom of the pole.

    5. Attach the Chainsaw holder to the pole with two hose clamps.

    6. Attach the Chainsaw holder to the chainsaw and secure it with two hose clamps. Make sure all hose clamps have a snug fit to handle the weight and force during operation.

    7. You may need to bypass the safety button on your chainsaw if it requires pressing to unlock the trigger. For this, a plastic strip with a small nut can work or some tape

  2. Bottom Pole Mount

    1. Attach the bottom pole mount at the lower end of the pole with two hose clamps for a convenient belt mount, allowing for comfortable handling while pruning.

C. Battery extension cord control assembly Instructions:

  1. Chainsaw Holder Setup

    1. Make sure that you have the battery extension cord available and if necessary assembled.

    2. Assembly the Chainsaw holder by fixing the cable clamp with the M8 screw, self-locking nut and washer. Tighten until the  cable is fixed properly, if not fixed when tightening all the way down, use some electrical tape to increase the diameter locally.

    3. Attach the Chainsaw holder to the pole with two hose clamps.

    4. Attach the Chainsaw holder to the chainsaw and secure it with two hose clamps. Make sure all hose clamps have a snug fit to handle the weight and force during operation.

    5. You may need to bypass the trigger button on your chainsaw. For this, a plastic strip or electrical tape can be used to block the trigger in the engaged position.

    6. Fix the cable of the battery extension cord to the outside of the pole, make sure the allow displacement if the pole is telescopic

  2. Bottom Pole Mount

    1. Attach the bottom pole mount at the lower end of the pole with two hose clamps for a convenient belt mount, allowing for comfortable handling while pruning
