Got some new compact speakers (DALI oberon 3; highly recommended!) which turned out to be still too big for my desktop. So down to the floor with them. Now the sound was a little underwhelming since lying on the floor isn't among my typical listening positions.
As a lazy compromise I decided to design a simple angled speaker stand. After meticulous testing by bolstering the speakers with some books, I found the perfect angle for listening from the couch and came up with a spring-like shape that's supposed to decouple the speaker from the floor while at the same time not looking all too goofy.
Now when I touch the top of my speakers they'll wiggle up and down for some time which is a nice side-effect. It's kind of a fidget toy now.
The downside is that this “everything's a spring if you're brave enough" attitude left me with the top face getting bent by the sheer weight of this compact, but not lightweight speaker. Since I used decorative filament that's unfit for constant-load applications it will surely creep over time and heat. Let's wait for the results til summer.
In the meantime I can recommend printing not in wood-filled PLA as I did, but rather with PETG or better. Designed to be printed with 2 walls on a 1,2mm nozzle.
