I was tired of those cups (that are just held between the lugnuts) you can buy as a hub cap for the Mefro Steel Wheels.
As I had some hub caps from a VW Caddy for the front wheels (which fit on the T3 Syncro with some slight modifications) I wanted something similiar for the rear axle. First design some years back (can be found on thingiverse) was way to complicated with multiple weakpoints.
This year I set out to simplify and improve the model.
The new design takes way less time to print, doesn't need any supports (if your printer is capable of doing ~45mm bridges), stays well on the wheel and is easy to customize.
It's created in FreeCAD, with all relevant parameters in a handy table to cater to your needs.
The top is a solid 3mm, so you can easily emboss stuff in the top. As you can see on the images I embossed 1.5mm deep a VW-Logo (which is not part of the file for obvious reasons). Also I added a disk in the slicer and manually switched the filament to a silver-ish color for three layers under the logo for a better contrast. If you also don't have a multi material printer and don't want to change filament several times mid print, I recommend printing full-black and coloring in the embossed features with a color of your choice of a suitable material (e.g. nail-polish. But make sure the color won't dissolve your material).
Printed with eSUN ABS, 0.2mm layer height in my enclosed TwoTrees SP-5. Holds up well to on- and offroad useage so far.
// edit 2024-12-11: Added a .stl with a flat version for the T3 Syncro front axle
