I needed a small container to soak my speedball rollers to remove acrylic paint.  I wanted it have the smallest volume possible to use less paint removing solution as possible. It’s why I didn’t want to just use a mason jar.

This is just a prototype. It's good enough, though, so it will do and I don't plan on printing another unless I need a new one. If that happens then I will correct the design, but I still want people to be able to know about it and maybe design their own. You can also just download this one, but just know that it isn't refined. If I do a redesign I will definitely update the files found here.

I’m testing different things to see what works best to remove the paint, and I would prefer not to use anything toxic. I have found different answers to this question, so I’m going to work through them.

What I need to fix is as follows:

  • I used a box and lid shape available on Tinkercad, but the lid, although the right size, fits loosely.
  • I need to revise the type of handle I used on the roller holder. It’s just not practical due to the amount of supports it needs. I actually forgot to activate supports, so I ended up putting a piece of cardboard there to support the top bridge.
  • I would create my own box and lid in revision.

Update:  Definitely use Murphy oil soap. It loosens the paint in less than an hour. The box is handy because it allows you to use less soap and then save that soap and reuse it. This works so well I’m going to just design a new lid, so I can just keep the same box file. The lid actually makes a great place to let the soap drain off the roller. Also, the roller holder issue is only a problem if you don’t like printing a lot of supports, which I’m in that group, so I’ll probably fix that too.
