Sargans Castle

• The Romans had already built a watchtower on the rocky outcrop.
• In the 13th century, they extended an existing small castle complex.
• In 1405, Sargans was besieged by the Appenzell wars.
• In 1459, the castle collapsed due to an earthquake.
• 1436 - 1450 During the Old Zurich War, the town of Sargans was burnt down, the castle was besieged but remained intact.
• In 1460 it was rebuilt and the rear castle was added to the tower in the eastern part.
• 1483 Part of the castle collapsed.
• The castle was extensively restored for the first time in the 19th century.
