I have 6" can lights with trims that hold flood style bulbs. I got ahold of some LED surface mount fixtures that look like can lights, but don't need the can housing, and only need a round box opening. Instead of removing all the cans, I took the trims out, drill the rivets to separate the trim ring from the back support. Attach the back support to this print with some screws, and you now have the mounting holes that a box would give you for attaching a surface mounted fixture. This also keeps the functionality of the springs that hold the trim in. I used ABS for this since the temperature will get high above the fixture.
