Turtle (submarine)

The Turtle (1776) was the world's first combat submarine, designed by David Bushnell during the American Revolution. This one-person vessel attempted to attach explosives to British warships in New York Harbor. Though unsuccessful in its mission, it proved submarines could be viable weapons.
