HO scale model of the Unity, Saskatchewn, Express Freight Shed now located at the Saskatchewan Railway Museum. The model is based on photos found online; will be interesting to visit the museum when it opens in the spring and see how close I am to the real thing!

Parts are separated for easy painting or for printing in different colours.

Walls are separate top and bottom halves for printing in separate colours. There are also one-piece walls if you prefer to print in a single colour; see the files with "one_colour" in the filename.

I like to print my roof parts, but you can use traditional sheet materials instead. The main roof and roof sheathing parts are the only parts that need supports. The roof sheathing can be a challenging and time consuming print, so you may want to consider paper-printed shingles in place of this part.

Printing notes

I print everything at 0.1mm layers with 0.2mm extruder.

For the main roof and roof sheathing, I add an external brim to ensure bed adhesion. I either manually add supports under the shallow angle faces or adjust the overhang threshold in the support settings. The steep angle faces do not need supports. The main roof and the roof sheathing parts are the only parts that need supports.

To save time and material with the roof supports, I change some of the support settings to reduce the density of the support structure. Here are the settings I change; support settings not listed are not changed from the Prusa Slicer defaults.

  • Overhang threshold: 30 degrees
  • First layer density: 60%
  • Top contact Z distance: 0.2 mm (detachable)
  • Pattern: Honeycomb
  • Pattern spacing: 3mm

These settings work well for me, resulting in parts that cleanly pop off of the support structure.
