I'm continuing my effort to transfer the 3Dsets.com model 14 “Long Max” into an expedition vehicle. As a long-time player of Spintires/Mudrunner/Snowrunner games, i know pretty well, that there is no off-roading without a winch, so I designed a bumper that can hold one!
I decided to purchase a finished one that mimicks real Warn Zeon, because i liked that it comes ready-made with rope, hook and very nice working set of rollers, while using the same small geared DC motor 3D sets winches do. It shouldn't be a big fuss to adapt my bumper for different winches, however, as long as the winch fits between the front frame members. Feel free to draft custom front plate with different rope slot!
The bumper takes visual inspirations from real craft-made heavy-gauge sheet metal bumpers that fit to the period cars, I especially followed products of lovely named company Engineered vintage
The frame members are modified: exactly 10mm extended (I icluded the remixed parts in separate 3mf, might take them away later if 3Dsets people express diagreement)
I tested that it is possible to swap them on an already finished van, though it helps if there is no electronics installed in the engine bay.
You'll also need to purchase scale shackles (again, much more durable and easier to get, than trying to design something printed) and use 8x M2x16mm bolts (which you should have from the built, if you bought more than the exact amount)
Add-on lights are also from a set purchased at model shop. I included some mounting holes for the headlights, but the outer ones (which i wired as turn-signals) need to have their mounting points measured and drilled by you, should you decide to copy my exact look.
Last but not least, the bumper has a place to mount the original 3Dsets license plate (or a custom one of the same shape). I went the extra steps of confirming with local friends that in Oregon it is legal to mount the plate off-center like this - I have no idea about other states ;)
