Helicopter: OMP M4 Max

Simple Leveling Aid for Aligning a Spektrum FC6350HX Flybarless Controller

The initial setup of the Spektrum FC6350HX requires recalibration to ensure the mounting orientation is perfectly level.

Performing this calibration after the landing skids of the M4 Max are already installed presents two challenges:

  1. The skids are made of relatively soft material, allowing the helicopter to shift in all directions depending on the applied pressure.
  2. The skids are not perpendicular to the underside of the helicopter. Even if the ground surface is perfectly level, the helicopter will still be tilted forward by several degrees.

To address these issues, I designed this leveling aid. Together with the base plate, it forms a ball joint. The leveling aid can easily be adjusted on the base plate in all directions until a spirit level confirms the helicopter is perfectly horizontal.

Application

  1. Place the leveling aid onto the base plate.
  2. Position the helicopter onto the leveling aid, aligning the screw heads that protrude from the skids into the guide slots of the leveling aid.
  3. Adjust the leveling aid until a spirit level placed on the flybarless controller shows a perfectly horizontal position (both longitudinal and lateral axes).

Print Parameters

  • Printer: Creality K1
  • Material: PLA
  • Nozzle Size: 0.4 mm
  • Layer Height: Adaptive layers (approximately 0.1 mm) for the base plate, as it is a partial sphere prone to stepping artifacts. This setting provided excellent results.
  • Leveling Aid: Printed with the same settings for simplicity.

Print Time

  • Base Plate: ~2 hours
  • Leveling Aid: ~1 hour 30 minutes. Placed sideways
