Customisable Bamboo Skewer Charging Station

This is an attractive little stand to store, display or hold mobile devices while charging. It uses 3mm bamboo skewers which I think looks quite nice, and is better for the environment.  The open design and the vertical placement of the devices allows better heat dissipation. You can easily customise the width of the stand and the number of dividers.  It has been designed in OnShape, so you can modify it further if you like.

Instructions

Step 1: Decide on the width and the number of dividers

Step 2 (optional): Print the test tool and choose the hole size/print settings that work with your skewers. Not all skewers are the same size and quality, it is worth sorting through them and finding the best ones. 

Step 3: Print 3X Braces (You can resize the width in your slicer), 1X end piece (normal) 1X end piece (Mirrored) and dividers if any. For my build I used 2.9mm skewer holes for the end pieces and 3.0mm holes for the dividers. This allows the dividers to move easily so you can adjust their position later. you can also ream out the holes with a 3mm drill bit.

Step 4: While everything is printing, measure and cut your horizontal skewer pieces, they are the same length as the braces (18cm if you have not changed it). There is a max of 18 horizontal skewers. You can use less if you prefer.

Step 5: Stack all of your dividers together, and insert the braces and skewers through

Step 6: Attach the end pieces, I like to turn it on it's side, insert the braces and then insert each skewer in a sequential order.

Step 7: Shuffle the dividers into their approximate positions, then insert the diagonal divider skewers. Trim them flush, or leave the spikey. You can have up to 3 in each divider piece.

Once you are happy with the layout, you can choose to glue down any loose parts.

You can easily attach other accessories or tidy up cables with cable ties.
