This remix of the WDHex Revolving Labyrinth removes the need for a 20mm thick base and use of 3D printed trucks for rotation. Instead, the Slot-Style system allows remixed Maze Tiles to simply glide along a raised track.

Note that the remixed Slot-Style Maze Tiles are incompatible with the original WDHex base. You will need to purchase the compatible Slot-Style Base; available here:

A comprehensive PDF is included in the files which includes assembly instructions, some general advice on maze layout, as well as a four-ring Sample Maze.

File Details:

All files are have been test printed on a standard FDM printer with a 200m x 200m build plate, support-free. Use high-sheen PLA where possible; either gloss, silk, or metallic. Rough or matte-finish PLA may impede a smooth rotation.

A 3-Ring Maze requires an estimated 3.2 kg of filament and 232 cylinder magnets (3mm x 3mm), and measures 22.75”.
You will also require 36 OpenLOCK connectors (pre-reduced to 2.6mm height), and 44 Ring Spacers.

A 4-Ring Maze requires an estimated 5.0 kg of filament and 328 cylinder magnets (3mm x 3mm), and measures 28.5”.
You will also require 60 OpenLOCK connectors pre-reduced to 2.6mm height), and 68 Ring Spacers.

Changelog:

  • Nov 17: Added Wall-less maze tiles for Rings 1, 2, and 3. This will allow for two double-wide sections or partial sections. Reminder that Ring 0's “wall-less” option is the ‘Ring 0 - Full _____’ file.
  • Updated Instructions. The document now includes a Print List with a list of how many of each Base and Maze parts you need to make the Sample Maze.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

  • A recessed slot on the underside of each Maze Tile. This slot sits overtop of the raised track on the Slot-Style Base which serves as a guide during rotation. Chamfered edges on each Maze Tile ensures smooth gliding.

  • Each Maze Tile has holes for 3mm x 3mm cylinder magnets on each connecting side.
The magnets aid in keeping the Maze Tiles sliding as a single until, and allow the ring to be rotated by guiding the walls without the tiles tipping backwards.

  • A remixed fourth ring of Maze Tiles was created. This adds an extra 24 tiles of play-space, and an additional 6-8” to the total diameter for a truly epic encounter.
