This design is based on an (unfortunately) obsolete model-making tool known as a Rabbet Cutter. I found myself in need of several more of these tools for an Industrial Design course I was teaching.

Here, the tool has been redesigned for 3D printing without supports. I prefer to print it in PETG for superior strength and layer adhesion.

It uses standard safety razors and 3x #6x ½" thread cutting screws or similar. Sheet metal screws in the same size ought to work just fine. Here is a link for the screws I used in this model: https://a.co/d/5GWKWqu

  1. A swipe from each end of the tool and the perfect notch is removed from the edge of a 3/16" foamcore panel, ready to accept the adjacent edge.
  2. Use hot glue or Elmer's glue with a bit of masking tape to make clean, stronger joints in foamcore.

Foamcore is a low cost, easy to cut and shape material ideal for prototyping larger designs or making costume and decorative elements.
