The part number of the w639 glove storage compartment is A6396800291
You can buy a replacement compartment for roughly 120€ from ali express sellers or 250€ by amazon sellers.
But we are here for nifty DIY solutions, right?
This Repair Kit contains two parts.
1. The repair washers are meant to be printed in TPU since they replace the functionality of the OEM rubber washers. A repair washer is only necessary in case your main screw mounting holes are broken and do not hold the main tightening screw anymore. In that case, the repair rubber washer can be used to tighten down the whole storage compartment to its OEM screw holes.
2. The repair fittings can restore the hinge functionality in case the lower hinge mounts broke.
They are a bit looser than the stock fittings on purpose. This guarantees that the sturdy OEM hinge part with the spring inside will come loose from the repair fitting and not rip it out of its place when the compartment is opened too fast and wants to overshoot.
Its easy to insert the hinges back into the repair piece if that happened.
Assembly:
First we need to clean up the area around the broken hinge mounts by removing them
I used a grinding tool to saw off the remaining bits to reveal the rectangular cutout beneath them
Then clean up the rectangular cutout so it has a flush surface. I did this using small files and sandpaper on a 1cm wide sanding block.
Insert the repair piece with its leash facing forward and press it in by pushing on the back side where it has a springy lower part.
The springy part should ideally snap into place. But that can be tricky since the surface on top needs to be flat and the rectangular cut out in correct size.
In case the repair piece does not fit, sand the rectangular cutout a bit larger.
If the repair piece does not sit tight in the rectangular cut out, consider to glue it in place.
The result should look like this
