Description

PDF

This decorative drain rack was designed with simplicity and utility in mind, ideal for drying water bottles, cups, and other items that aren’t dishwasher-safe. The main variant features a flat drying surface without ribs, perfect for laying out a variety of objects on an even surface.

For added style, I included a subtle decorative pattern that keeps the rack visually appealing, even when not in use. The two flat grooves around the edges are designed to allow easy color customization in your slicer or to add a subtle accent when printed in a single color.

Printing Guidelines

Larger sizes can be challenging to print due to warping, especially with PETG. If you’re printing a rack with sides over 160mm, using an enclosure or a low-shrinkage material can help maintain quality.

You’ll find an example PrusaSlicer project with basic print settings to help get you started. Check the table below for specific recommendations:

ParameterDescription
OrientationRack bottom on the print bed
Nozzle Size0.4mm, 0.6mm, or 0.8mm
Layer Height0.2mm, 0.35mm, or 0.4mm
Filament MaterialsPETG, PLA
Perimeters2-3 layers
InfillGyroid, 15%

Choosing the Right Material

  • My Recommendation: I recommend printing this rack with Extrudr Green-TEC PRO filament (not a sponsor) — it prints smoothly like PLA but has heat resistance up to 170°C (338°F), so it’s a solid choice for dishwasher-safe items.
  • PETG: Recommended for its resistance to warping and durability, making it a good choice for larger racks. Works in a dishwasher too, but only with low-temperature programs.
  • PLA: Great for smaller racks and adds a nice finish if you plan to use the rack as a decorative piece.

Model Variants and Dimensions

Each file name provides a quick reference to the model dimensions. For instance, LR2471-W180-D240.3mf indicates:

  • Width (W): 180mm
  • Depth (D): 240mm

The filenames for models with ribs begin with LR2471-R, allowing you to quickly identify the two different design variants.

Included Feet Models

I’ve included feet models for different materials. Choose between LR2461-F-flex for TPU and LR2461-F-petg for PETG. Adding feet to the rack are highly recommended, as they additionally increase the airflow.

Fusion 360 File

A Fusion 360 design file is also provided, offering advanced users an opportunity to tweak the design to their liking. Feel free to adjust dimensions or add new features to fit your specific needs.

Why 3MF Instead of STL?

All files are provided in 3MF format, as it offers advantages over STL, including a compact size and mesh-based storage. If you prefer STL, simply import the 3MF file into PrusaSlicer and export it as STL without any loss of detail.
