Telefunken/Sennheiser MD 421 Housing

This is a replacement housing for the long lasting line of MD-421 microphones. Ive lready converted four mics, and gave them a new use.

The housing is made to work with modern 42mm shock mounts (the OD of the round part is slightly more than 42mm) and includes an conversion to XLR.
The mic I've used for the conversion is a Telefunken model from the early 60s, and the body was well destroyed cause of degredation of the old plastics used over time. 

My printer isnt the nicest so the fit was quite snug, but it worked well.  

The nut used to fix the capsule to the original housing is reused for the new housing, tho you need a washer with a 4mm inner and at least 9mm outer diameter.

The XLR socket used is a Neutrik NC3 MD-LX-B available from many resources.

Wiring is rather straight forward, only twist is the missing shield wire in the stock microphone. I just soldered a wire to the wire mesh thats around the cables coming from the capsule.

Wiring Diagramm:

Shield → Pin 1
Blue → Pin 2
Red → Pin 3

The XLR Plug is fixed with M3 Inserts and countersunk screws underneath a mounting plate.

If you use any other plug than the Neutrig one you need to modify the bolt pattern in the base and on the plate.

1x Neutrik NC3 MD-LX-B
4x M3 Heatset Insert (The one from the Voron Buyers guide would be the best, others work)
4x M3x12 Countersunk Bolts
1x Cable to extend Shielding
4x Heatshrink Tubing

3 Perimeters
4 Top/Bottom Layers
0.4 Line Width
25% Infill

I've modified the housing to work with a 42mm shock mount. Also included a modification to work with a Neutrik NC3 MD-LX-B XLR plug.
