I present, my halloween costume this year. A big, bright, RGB puke Plumbob.

Circuitry:

My setup was quite simple. 5v addressable RGB strips connected to an ESP32 (ESP32 C3 Mini for compactness). Powered by a power bank.

I used WLED for the firmware. They also have tutorials for getting started with the circuitry, if you're not familiar.

The components:

Base:

This will sit on top of your head. It has 8 holes going through it for mounting steel wires to be later bent into your head's shape. I've tried first plastic headbands glued to an alternate version, but it didn't work. The whole contraption was too heavy to remain stable.
Prints concave surface upwards.

Bottom/Top:

The bottom and top halves of the plumbob are solid in the model, but are meant to be printed in vase mode without bottom layers, widest side down. Brims may be required depending on your bed adhesion. I used a wall thickness of 0.8mm and it was very solid. You can probably get away with smaller thicknesses if desired. White translucent filament is required. Clear filamet will probably show the inner LED strip too clearly, and any color other than white will tint the colors when using RGB strips. (unless you don't want to use RGB)

Strip path:

This piece will serve as the mounting point of the RGB strip. Designed for 10mm wide strips. The path curves along its length to avoid making bright hotspots in the outer prism. But makes it harder to stick the strip, superglue may be needed.
Prints upright, with the small alignment cylinder up

Base rod:

The base rod attaches the bottom half to the base, and contains a path inside of it to run thin wires for the LED strip.
Prints laid down for greater strength. The taper is cut off on one side to allow printing without supports

Additional info:

None of the models require support. I printed them in a mix of PLA and PETG because it was what I got at hand. I don't believe it matters much what to use in any of the parts.

Assembly:

  1. Insert the Base rod into the Bottom half. Its taper will later be pressed against the inside wall of the Bottom half. Don't glue it in yet.
  2. Pull the LED strip wires through the Base rod
  3. Screw the Base into the Base rod with two small wood screws
  4. Add the 3 LED strips to the Strip path and solder them into the wires (tip: use only 3 wires. split each wire into 3 inside the plumbob for each of the strips)
  5. Insert the strip path into the base rod, using the cylinder alignment. Glue it in place. Ensure it's straight while the glue dries
  6. Glue the Base rod into the Bottom half where the walls touch
  7. Test everything
  8. Glue the two halves together with a very small amount of superglue along the thin walls to avoid drips
  9. Insert 2mm steel wires into the Base and bend them in the shape of your head

Tall folks:

From the top of the head to the tip of the prism is about 34 centimeters (13 something freedom inches). You may need to be mindful of doorframes. Or even ceilings, if you're tall enough. The parametric project is available to download, if any modifications are needed
