I created a 3d model of the moon. Using real NASA sourced topography from https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/4720/ . I then used Blender geometry nodes modifiers to break up the sphere into the 12 faces of a dodecahedron. I finished with inserting 3x8 mm rare earth magnet recesses so that the moon can be assembled magnetically. I printed the pieces one of the edges and this seemed to work pretty well.
I go over some of the steps in the Blender Con 24 video https://youtu.be/m55iR8__tZc?si=skd76aY7AqldQBsk&t=1574
If there is sufficient interest (read sufficient downloads and makes), I will post a full length modeling video.
I would love to see prints with different colors and even different filaments, I am especially interested if someone wants to tackle this with TPU.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
