This phone tray allows you to easily align your phone with the IKEA Livboj wireless charger. It solves the issue with aliging your phone correctly. A couple of times I woke up with a phone that did not charge and decided to do something about it.

The parametric Freecad file is included to make it fit your phone. Measure you phone (including case), adjust some parameters and export for 3D-printing.

The .STEP and .3MF files are just examples and made to fit with a Samsung S24 Ultra.

Freecad

A little about Freecad: It is parametric design software which is fully open source. At the time of writing the newest version is the second release candidate for version 1. This is also the version I used for the design and is required to open the file. You can get it here: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases/tag/1.0rc2

The design file

The file contains 3 bodies shown in the design tree: the phone mock-up, the charging puck mock-up and the phone tray. Bodies can be hidden and shown using the eye icon. The VarSet is also shown in the tree. Click it to show the list of parameters. Only a few have to be changed according to you phone size.

If you are not seeing the bodies and VarSet, make sure the “Model” tab is selected in the top left corner:

The following parameters are important to change:

  • Phone_Length and Phone_Width: Measure the width and height (with calipers, or whatever you can find) of your phone and input the dimensions here.
  • Phone_Radius: This is a bit more tricky to measure. If you want to do it accurately, you can use a radius gauge. See picture below. (like this 3D-printed one: https://www.printables.com/model/151423-radius-gauge-set/comments). If you are not sure about the correct radius, make sure to input a number a bit lower than your estimation.

Note: Be aware that some parameter changes might break the model. Just undo or reopen the file. If something keeps breaking the model, please let me know in the comments.

Other parameters to have a look at:

  • Phone_Thickness: Changes the height of the Phone body. Does not directly change the Phone Tray.
  • Edge_Angle: Changes the leaning angle of the outer edge.
  • Edge_Height: The height of the outer edge.
  • Horizontal_Cutout and Vertical_Cutout: Changes the length of the cut-outs on the sides.

Parameters you can probably leave at the default value:

  • Cable_Width: The cut-out width for the USB-C cable.
  • Charger_Diameter: Diameter of the Livboj Ikea wireless charger.
  • Charger_Height: Height of the Livboj IKEA wireless charger.
  • Offset: The clearence between your phone and the tray.

Preparing the file for printing

  1. In Freecad, click the Phone Tray body in the tree
  2. Press ctrl+e or file>export
  3. Select .step. Or if your slicer does not support .step files, select .3mf.
  4. Open the file in your slicer.

Printing

The part should be oriented correctly right away. Make sure to enable support (easy to remove). All other settings can be left at default.

Example:

After printing

The Livboj wireless charger should fit snuggly. If it is too tight, you can sand or file the nubs on the inside a bit.

Align the cable port with the cut-out on the side to be able to plug in the cable.

If you want to mount it permanently, (I installed it on my night stand) use some double sided tape on the bottom.

That's it! Let me know it you have any questions or comments.
