Why - CPU Temps were hovering at 90C with my NH-L9a-AM5 chromax.black when I played Warhammer 40k: Space Marines 2, and it would spike to 100C, which caused my computer to shut down.

Tested using VOXELAB PETG-CF - Dusty Pink and Inland PLA+ High Speed - Forest Green

Specs on PC (for anyone who is interested lol)

  • Case: Fractal Design Terra
    • A little review cause I don't have anywhere else to put it.
      • It is a decent case. I love the size, versatility, and aesthetics of the case, but I have had some minor issues with it. The middle removal “spine” of the case came bent, which cause the parts of the PC to rub against the side panels. I submitted an RMA with Fractal Design, which took over a month to get a new “spine”. The coating is nice but rubbing your skin on it or scratching it with your nail leave really ugly marks on it, which you have to clean with a microfiber cloth. I have to take of one of the GPU side panel during gaming because the design of the air holes makes it sound like an airplane.
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7800X3D
  • CPU Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 240
    • Current Temps: 45C - 50C idle, 70C - 80C under load
    • Old cooler: NH-L9a-AM5 chromax.black
      • This was a great, quiet cooler and it worked well with many games. However, I knew I had to go liquid cooling soon as the temps idled at 60C-70C, which isn't bad, but what is bad is going to 90C to 100C under load.
    • Another aside: FanControl is a great app to control the fan curves of all your PC fans.
  • GPU: Asus ProArt 4080 Super
  • Power Supply: Cooler Master V1100 SFX Platinum
  • Memory: 64GB G.Skill DDR5 Trident Z5 RGB 6400MHz
  • NVME SSD: Samsung 990 PRO 4TB
  • Motherboard: GIGABYTE B650I AORUS ULTRA AM5 MITX
  • Quick tip to anyone building a PC, when installing Windows 11, create a bootable with rufus so you can by-pass the need to login to Microsoft.

Please leave any suggestions and feedback in the comments. I'm not sure if I'm going to work on another version that's more universal, but if you guys want it, I might. I hope this helps someone!
