Print in place and no supports needed.

This is an easy to print rope climbing toy inspired by old German Climbing Woodpecker toy. Toy climbs up as you pull the rope down and release it. Learn about friction and hinge joint while having tons of fun.
 

How to print:

  • Print the toy laying on its back with hands pointed up. (default orientation)
  • Use PETG or something similar. The print needs to be slightly bendy to properly clamp the rope.

What you'll need:

  • Some rope (Optimal diameter: 1mm - 2mm)
  • 1x Rubber band

How to assemble:

How to put the rope through the hand: 

 

  • Squeeze the hands together to open up the gap

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Two sides overlap to reveal a gap in between.
  • This is where you put the rope through.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Put the rope under the “beam” between the legs and through the hole at the bottom of the legs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rubber Band

Easiest way to tie the rubber band:

 

  • Rubber band can be tied in couple different ways.
  • The purpose of the rubber band is to retract the legs back up once you let go of the rope.
  • Make sure the rubber band is tight enough.

 

 

 

 

 

 

How to Use

Once assembled tie the upper end of the rope to something and then repeatedly pull and release the rope and watch the toy climb up.

It also works vertically, or pretty much in any orientations as long as the grip on the rope is tight enough.
