– Update --
V2 now available here with improved design and swoppable face plates https://www.printables.com/model/1261604-sprite-nova-v2-customisable-sprite-extruder-shroud

I was not satisfied with the fan duct options available for the Creality Sprite Extruder on my Ender 3 S1, so decided to prototype my own. The issue with the stock version is that it only cools from one side which can create uneven print quality due to one sided cooling.

My new design is loosely inspired by the Bambu and Voron toolheads. My aim was to drastically increase cooling by using 2 ducts 180 degrees apart which direct air onto the nozzle point and around 10 mm either side for even cooling. The duct positioning also improves the view of the nozzle as there are now no obstructions in the way. The fan is mounted vertically for an aesthetically pleasing look.

Thank you to Kingsidorak for excellent Sprite Extruder model which made my life a lot easier https://grabcad.com/library/creality-sprite-extruder-work-in-progress-1

- Update -

I have improved the fan duct nozzle dimensions to reduce back pressure and improve air flow by about 15. New file is spriteNovaShroudJets Update.stl

- Update 2 -

Added wider version of the jets. Extra 2.5mm space either side of the nozzle to prevent warping if you are printing higher than 235C.

Summary

  • Requires no additional parts besides the two included models
  • Requires no modifications of the Sprite Extruder
  • Uses the standard Creality 4010 blower fan
  • Uses 3 screws that held the original fan mount on

Future versions

  • Plan to replace the 4010 fan with a 5020 for increases air flow

Print Guide

  • Print the shroud face down using tree supports to assist the internal bridges
  • Print the jets vertically with the jet nozzle on the bed side
    • No supports required

Disassembly

  1. Disconnect and remove the Sprite Extruder from the printer
  2. Remove the touch probe
  3. Remove the fan duct and keep the 3 M3 screws
  4. Remove the 4010 fan using

Assembly

  1. Carefully insert the 4010 fan into the shroud
    1. You will need to tilt and wiggly it in carefully - it is a snug fit and no screws needed
  2. Insert the fan duct into the shroud
  3. Place the unit over the stepper motor and take care to position the probe and fan wires so the don't get pinched
  4. Do final alignment with the screw holes on the stepper motor, and screw in the 3 M3 screws.
  5. Re-attach Sprite Nova extruder to the printer and ensure
  6. Ensure the toolhead is square to the bracket
  7. Redo your z-offset as this has probably changed slightly
