I recently had to replace the belt clamp on the X carriage of the Prusa XL multitool version (required for installing an enclosure), and found out it's pretty tricky - you need to keep both ends of the belt touching when screwing them in. This little plastic doodad can help you with this.
- Print this helper (just one copy).
- Choose one of the (currently-disconnected) belts.
- While the belt ends are still “in the air” (not touching the X carriage), hold the ends against the the belt clamp, making sure they're touching and aligned with the “teeth”.
- Hold the helper against the ends to keep them in place. You should now have a helper-belt-clamp sandwich.
- While still holding the sandwich, gently move it to the correct place and screw the clamp into the X carriage. Just a few turns should be enough to prevent the belt ends from moving away while still being able to slide the helper out.
- Slide the helper out.
- Repeat with the other belt.
If the instructions are unclear, just try to screw the belt ends in once without this helper - you would probably quickly understand how to use it.
