Wonder who everybody's favorite is? You're welcome. Don't do drugs. M'kay?
My wonderful Club Members chose and I followed their call. User DirkvK took inspiration by my models and published his own version, which you can get here for free!
But here's mine, some details about the design process as usual: I quickly decided that this model would be printed on its belly, as getting the sail right would be the main challenge. I used the same idea as for Gregor the Ankylosaurus. When I designed him, I thought it should be possible to make the whole hinge inside the body to reduce the gaps as much as possible. To achieve this, the diameter of the body would have to match the diameter of the hinges. But this was impossible with Ankylosaurus' curvy physique so the Dimetrodon was the perfect choice to give this idea a try.
To give the sail a bit more stability, I added some extra hinges on the same axis as the main body. They're a bit fragile, but I guess it doesn't matter if they're there or not, so I'll leave them for now. I'm sure I'll be updating the model in the near future as there are a few details I'd like to fix. But why should only big computer game companies release their unfinished stuff? Maybe it will be a collector's item in a few years. You're gonna be rich!
I printed the prototypes in Prusament PETG, which had quite an impact on the last models I designed due to its high bed adhesion. It allowed me to get very small parts sticking to the build plate, which caused quite a problem when I switched to PLA. So I pulled myself together and made large flat areas on the underside of the model. PLA should be no problem here.
The sail is the weak point of this model due to its thinness, so it might be a good idea to raise the printing temperature a bit if you want it to be strong.
I can't stress this enough, so I'm going to write it down here: FlexiDinos are in no way suitable for small children. Parts can break off and leave sharp edges, so make sure your children are old enough to know what they're doing before letting them play with FlexiDinos!
