LSI 9300-16i HBA Cooling Fan Shroud

The LSI 9300-16i HBA is a wonderful choice for DIY NAS enthusiasts,  but outside of data center with frigid climate control and numerous fans pushing air over its heatsink,  it tends to get warm.

This shroud clips around the LSI 9300-16i's heatsink and adequately cools the HBA by pushing air across the heat stink.  There are STLs for four different fan sizes:

1. 92mm x 92mm x 15mm
2. 92mm x 92mm x 25mm
3. 80mm x 80mm x 15mm
4. 80mm x 80mm x 25mm

The fan shroud clips to the HBA's heatsink and are positioned in a way that they do not interfere with any of the components on the HBA's circuit board.

Slicing/Printing Tips:

• Enable supports
• Set perimeters/walls to 4
• Recommended filament: PETG
• Tested filaments: PLA, TPU

Installation Tips:

• Route the fans connector through the shroud's hole before installing the fan.
• Position the fan so it is pushing air towards the heatsink.
• The shroud fits pretty snugly on the heatsink, it may be necessary bend the legs of the clip to get them all to clip onto the heatsink.
• Depending on the size of the fan, plan on the shroud blocking at least one PCIe slot.
• Install the shroud so that the cable is coming out the right side of the HBA (near the SFF-8643 connectors)

• Noctua NF-A9x14
• Thermalright TL-9015
• Thermalright TL-8015

While I designed this from scratch in OpenSCAD,  it was was greatly inspired by the LSI 9300-16i Noctua NF-A9x14 Fan Shroud and made a few tweaks to meet my needs:

• Fewer 90 degree edges, hopefully for easier 3D-printing.
• Added support for additional fans.
• Reinforcement on the each of the legs to increase durability.
