I thought the available shaker boxes were a bit steep pricewise and also very crammed for my big fingers. It started with the idea of a somewhat wider grid for convinience and escalated from there into a modular box system when I figured out, that severel sizes would make sense depending on shape and length of the preferred pellets. Until I had the tolerances figured out and drawn it all up I could have just bought a couple of the available boxes, but where is the fun in that?
First one needs to choose a required pellet length.
Short is likely for flat head pellets.
Medium works for round head pellets I have here.
Long is mostly for slugs I found.
Then one needs a lid in that size, decide for a pattern of the screen and a box in the same size.
Box and lid differentiate in height, screens too around the edges minus a tolerance, however here also the thickness of the floor is important to hold the pellet upright and also leave enough of the tail sticking out and be able to grab them.
I only use 4,5mm caliber, hence I could only test the screen size with them. The files are available for changing to 5,5mm or WHY pattern wise. There is a standard 100 holes pattern as in the commercially available ones and a somewhat further spread 49 holes pattern I started the whole thing for.
As in the pictures they are printed in PETG 0,2 height and work a treat, it even locks just the right amount with the little ledges.
For convenience there is a pellet gauge to calibrate the hole sizes depending on the printer and material used.
