This project provides a set of customizable and easy-to-print skirt buttons specifically designed for Voron 2.4 and Trident 3D printers. These buttons fit into the existing skirt holes, allowing for the integration of essential functions without the need for reprinting the skirts. The buttons are ideal for controlling various printer functions like for example power, preheat, cooldown, lighting, emergency stop or homing. Each button features a dedicated icon, with six pre-defined options available. A blank button is also provided for custom icons. Note that only full hexagon skirt holes are supported.

Requirements:

  • 6x6x5 Tact switch
  • Printer that can acheive relatively tight tolerances (0.2mm)

Key Features:

  • Icon Options: Includes six pre-designed icons (Power, Heat, Cool, Light, Emergency Stop, Homing) plus a blank version for custom designs.
  • No Additional Hardware Required: Only requires a standard 6x6x5mm tact switch and a short piece of 3D printing filament.
  • Print-in-Place Design: Buttons are easy to print with no support needed and minimal to no post-processing.
  • Secure Mounting: Two-part design with a nut that secures the button into place in the skirt holes.
  • Two Versions Available: Separate designs for top and bottom skirt holes, as these differ slightly.
  • Stackable Design: Buttons align neatly when multiple are mounted together.
  • Easy Customization: Includes STEP files for easy modification and personalization.

Printing Instructions:

  1. Orientation: Print button with the icon side down.
  2. Nozzle Size: Optimized for a 0.4mm nozzle.
  3. Tolerances: Your printer must be well-calibrated to achieve the tight tolerances required for the button mechanism to function properly.
  4. Printer Settings: Layer height of 0.2mm recommended. No supports required.

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Free the Button: After printing, press hard on the button to break it free from the surrounding casing. If it’s stuck, you can carefully use a hammer to nudge it loose.
  2. Solder the Wires: Solder wires to the 6x6x5mm tact switch, making sure to keep the joints on the inner side of the switch for a neat fit.
  3. Insert the Switch: Place the tact switch into the button casing. Push it firmly until it sits flat at the bottom.
  4. Secure with Filament: Insert a 23mm piece of 3D printing filament into the side hole to secure the tact switch in place. Trim any excess filament flush with casing so that it does not interfere with skirt.
  5. Insert into Skirt: Insert the button into the skirt hole, ensuring you use the correct version (top or bottom) based on placement.
  6. Tighten the Nut: Secure the button from the backside of the skirt using the nut.

Modification and Customization:

For those who wish to personalize their buttons, the project includes STEP files, allowing you to easily modify the design, change icons, or adjust the fit. The blank button offers a great canvas for custom icons to match additional functions.
